Forest Fires Rage Across Italy

Bridger mountain range

Bridger Mountains completely hidden by smoke.

I write from my home in Montana, where the air outside smells like a giant campfire and I haven’t been able to wear my contacts for days.

Fire seems to be everywhere.

Our summer has been unseasonably hot and while this has been great for my garden, the heat has created a dangerously dry environment.  This is true for so many other areas, Italy included.  Record heat and drought found across the world.

At this very moment, 159 different forest fires are burning across Italy. Reports say that many were not started by natural causes.  Southern Italy has had the most trouble, including the Amalfi Coast.   At the moment fires are not effecting travelers along the coast, but I will post if that changes.

Over a 1000 tourists camping in Tuscany earlier this month were not so lucky and had to be evacuated as the fires got too close for comfort.

Day 7 of My Favorite Italian Websites | From a Tuscan Villa

Welcome to Day 7 of my 30 days of Italian websites that will draw you in and keep you dreaming.

I am a big fan of supporting small business, family run operations and those that are lesser known.  WordPress connected this site to me through their blog called From a Tuscan Villa.  The only problem I have when reading their stories and drooling over the photos is my insane jealously that I don’t live there!

Day 6 of My Favorite Italian Websites | Napoli Unplugged

Welcome to Day 6 of my 30 days of Italian websites that will draw you in and keep you dreaming.

Napoli Unplugged was a gem that I found searching around amist hundreds of Tweets last year.  I am not shy in saying that I don’t have much experience with travel in and around Naples, so this site has become priceless to me.  For example, because of their posts and update information I learned about late night entrance into Pompeii for the summer only.  I never would have found that in a standard guide book.

The Danger Of All You Can Eat Buffets

Sometimes life requires a time-out.

I have a knack for getting a little ahead of myself.  I can’t seem to help it.  Ideas float in my mind all day, everyday.

Over a month ago I found myself overwhelmed.  My plate was full.  As in heaping full, like a greedy diner at an all you can eat buffet that serves prime rib AND coconut shrimp.  I needed to unload something, but many things in my life can’t be put on hold.

I have three of them.

Ok.  That wasn’t fair, even if she is a Diva.

We also just moved to the most amazing little town this side of heaven.  You may have heard of it.  Bozeman, Montana.

Bozeman Montana

Of course the beauty hasn’t helped us tackle this any faster.

I have learned that despite of all this wonderful chaos, I need to write.  I must write and I must share.  Passion is hard to subdue.

So I’m back in the all you can eat line with my empty plate and my elbows up.

I will never learn.
